Despite some controversy, intermittent fasting is an effective way to lose weight. In contrast to a strict, continuous low-calorie diet, intermittent fasting cycles between a low-calorie diet and normal eating to prevent your body from adapting to a low-calorie diet. Unlike other weight loss methods, however, this approach requires consistency. Most people see results in about two weeks, and they need to stay committed for four to five more weeks to see the full results.
In one study, which focused on 116 obese adults, intermittent fasting caused weight loss of three percent more in the time-restricted group. In a second study, which involved 100 obese individuals, researchers found that the alternate-day fasting group lost significantly less weight, but a high dropout rate compared to the regular diet group. Nonetheless, this diet does promote rapid weight loss.
During intermittent fasting, you will be able to enjoy a wide variety of foods. In addition, you will be able to share meals with others, which will add more satisfaction and support your health. You can even share your food with a friend or relative to lose weight with them. The main benefit of this approach is that it will help you to eat fewer calories than you normally would.
