One of the first questions people ask when they start intermittent fasting is, what should they eat? While the majority of people eat well, if they skip meals, you’ll probably have trouble losing weight. However, if you eat more than a small amount of food during the eating window, you could be causing a problem. It’s not uncommon to hit a plateau in weight loss when you do this.
Intermittent fasting may result in weight loss, but the body retains water during the process. The weight you lose during this time is mostly water. Your body’s metabolism begins to burn fat, but you may experience a ‘weight loss plateau’. This plateau occurs because your body is trying to readjust to its new weight and is storing excess water in the process. If you continue to eat a large amount of food and skip physical activity, you’ll most likely gain back the weight that you lost during the first few days.
Ultimately, a weight loss plateau is a normal part of any diet. After you’ve lost a significant amount of weight, your body will adjust to your new weight and you may hit a plateau for a few weeks. The trick is to stick with your fasting regimen, but don’t lose hope. A successful diet requires discipline and commitment. Even if you’re able to continue eating normally, you will still encounter a weight loss plateau.
